Day 3
Arrive Tanjung Benoa (Bali)
This morning, wake up in Hong Kong and board your onward flight to Bali. Upon arrival, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel. The balance of the day is at your leisure. Hotel Nikko Bali Benoa Beach or similar
Day 4
Tanjung Benoa (Bali)
After breakfast this morning, visit the Tanah Lot sea temple. Possibly the most famous and most photographed place in Bali, the temple sits majestically on a large offshore rock which has been shaped over the years by the crashing waves of the surrounding sea. After photographing the temple exterior and its unusual rock formations, visit Taman Ayun temple, a royal temple from the Mengwi Empire. This multi-layered temple is set in a beautiful park and surrounded by ponds. Continue to Alas Kedaton, a small forest where mischievous monkeys roam freely through the temple and forest. This afternoon is at your leisure. This evening, enjoy dinner at a beach-side restaurant. (B,D)
Day 5
Tanjung Benoa (Bali)
After breakfast, travel to Teras Agrowisata to learn about how agrotourism boosts local economies. You will sample eight different types of herbal coffees and teas, and then choose one among the samples to enjoy with fried banana. Afterward, visit one of the most sacred Hindu Temples, Mother Temple of Besakih. Located in the slopes of an active volcano, Mt. Agung. Learn about the history of the temple and enjoy a tour of the temple complex, which features many striking monuments and eye-catching architecture. After lunch, travel to the village of Tenganan, known as the home of Bali’s first inhabitants. Observe traditional basket weaving and end the day with a nature trail hike at a relaxed pace to enjoy the diversity of the flora and fauna of the region. The balance of the day is at your leisure. Day 6
Tanjung Benoa / Ubud (Bali)
After breakfast this morning, depart for Ubud with sightseeing stops along the way! First, enjoy a performance of the Barong and Keris Dance, a traditional Balinese dance narrating the fight between good and evil. Continue to Goa Gajah or Elephant Cave – an archaeological site of significant historical value located on the cool western edge of Bedulu Village and dating back to the 11th century. Descend into its relic-filled courtyard and view the rock wall carvings, central meditational cave, bathing pools, and fountains. Next, visit Kintamani, an area known for its stunning views of the still active Mount Batur volcano, and then continue to Gunung Kawi Temple. Locally referred to as Pura Tirta Dawa Gunung Kawi Sebatu, this temple is one of Bali’s hidden gems. It features verdant gardens around ponds filled with carp and blooming lotuses, and ancient shrines surrounded by crystal clear pools fed by natural springs. Arma Museum & Resort or similar (B,L)
Day 7
Ubud (Bali)
Following breakfast you’ll visit the Jamu Organic Remedy Workshop. Enjoy a nature walk as you pick your own herbs and learn about Indonesian traditional medicine, known as Jamu. Make your own organic body mask, body oil, and body scrub out of herbs and spices with a local farmer who takes you through all the steps from picking the herbs to creating the finished product. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit Museum Puri Lukisan. This museum opened in 1956 to preserve and exhibit both traditional and modern Balinese artwork. You’ll also visit the Ubud Palace. This compound was mostly built after the 1917 earthquake and the royal family still lives here. You may wander around most of the large compound and explore the many traditional buildings, appreciating the stone carvings by noted local artists such as I Gusti Nyoman Lempad. (B,L)

Today is at your leisure to rest and relax or explore Bali independently. Consider an optional white water rafting tour at Ayung River! (B)
Day 9
Ubud / Yogyakarta (Java)
This morning, board your flight from Bali to Java. In Java, you’ll visit the Prambanan temple compound, the largest Hindu temple site in Indonesia, and one of the biggest in Southeast Asia. Built in the 9th century, this temple features typical Hindu architecture and is dedicated to Trimurti, the expression of God as the Creator (Brahma), the Preserver (Vishnu), and the Destroyer (Shiva). The Prambanan compound is also known as Rara Jonggrang complex and consists of three zones: first, the outer zone; second the middle zone, which contains hundreds of small temples; and the third is the holiest inner zone which contains eight main temples and small shrines. Afterwards, continue to visit the village of Kotagede, which contains the remains of the 16th century capital of the Mataram Kingdom. Here you will find a mosque built in 1575 and many relics of the traditional Javanese house. After lunch, the balance of the day is at your leisure. Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta or similar (B,L)
Day 10
Yogyakarta (Java)
Early this morning, travel to Borobudur which is best seen at dawn. Enjoy a pre-dawn stroll through the dewy grass of the tropical garden. As the mist begins to lift, the sun scales the surrounding volcanoes and terraced fields and highlights the stone reliefs and the many faces of Buddha. Afterward, learn the art of batik at a traditional workshop. Batik is a cultural heritage activity that is passed down from generation to generation in Java. Before the workshop, you’ll learn about the batik making process and the Javanese philosophy behind some of the patterns. Have fun discovering how to draw with hot wax on cotton and apply the dye. After boiling out the wax, your own batik will be complete. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and then return to the hotel. This afternoon is at your leisure. This evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and see the Ramayana Ballet Performance. This story was adapted from classic Indian literature and mixed with Javanese tradition, and focuses on Rama and his wife Sita. (B,L,D)

Yogyakarta / Jakarta (Java)
This morning is at your leisure. Consider joining an optional half-day tour exploring the city of Yogyakarta. Later today fly from Yogyakarta to Jakarta. The balance of the day is at your leisure. FM7 Resort Hotel or similar (B)
Day 12
Jakarta / USA
After breakfast this morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to Hong Kong and connecting flight to the USA. Arrive home filled with memories from your Indonesian adventure! (B)

Note: Travelers wishing to purchase this optional tour would participate in this tour instead of the included sightseeing scheduled for Day 7 in the tour itinerary on the tour page. Travelers cannot participate both in the day’s scheduled sightseeing and this optional tour.
 
Embark on a culinary adventure unlocking the secrets of authentic Balinese cooking! Visit a fully-equipped community village kitchen where you’ll use traditional ingredients and preparation methods. This optional tour begins with an early visit to the Ubud markets where you’ll pick from fresh herbs and spicies, crisp vegetables, and vhoice cuts of meat before heading off on guided ‘padi’ expeditions. Upon return to the kitchen you’ll be guided by your host who will hel pyou discover how to create your overy own delicious authentic Balinese dishes.

Day 8
White Water Rafting at Ayung River (approx 45 USD per person)
Ayung River provides a thrill that starts the moment you push off from the riverbank! As you traverse both Class II and Class III rapids, you will wind through deep valleys with cascading waterfalls and towering cliffs of prehistoric significance. End the activity with hot showers, clean towels and changing rooms followed by a hot gourmet buffet feast at a restaurant overlooking majestic mountains and rice fields.
Day 11
Yogyakarta Half-Day City Tour (approx 25 USD per person)
Explore the city of Yogyakarta! Here in Java’s cultural capital city, visit the enchanting grounds of the Sultan’s palace. To enter the kraton is to step back in time to airy 18th-century courtyards, typical Javanese architecture, and traditional old world values. Still the official residence of the Sultan, the palace is guarded by wizened old courtiers in traditional costume, complete with the kris, a Javanese ceremonial dagger, tucked into their sarongs. Continue to the nearby Taman Sari Water Castle situated inside Kraton Sultan’s Palace compound. The castle used to be the royal garden of the sultanate. Built around 1750, the castle is believed to be an area for the former kings to rest, meditate, and escape from enemies.

Cathay Pacific does not assign seats in advance. Please note that smarTours is not involved with your seat assignment. It is between you and the airline! Seat assignment can only be arranged upon check-in at the airport.
 
LAND ONLY TRAVELERS
International flights to/from the U.S. are not included. Land only travelers are responsible for arranging the entry and exit flights, as well as their arrival and departure transfers. smarTours cannot be held responsible for any damage caused by air schedule changes and delays. Unused land services are non-refundable.

Main Tour: Land only services start upon independent check in at the Tanjung Benoa hotel on Day 3 of the itinerary listed on the tour page. Land only services end after breakfast at the Jakarta hotel on Day 12 of the itinerary on the tour page.
 
PASSPORT AND VISA INFORMATION
Travel to Indonesia requires a passport valid for at least 6 months after the date of travel. A visa is not required for American passport holders. Non U.S. citizens should check with the respective consulates as to the most current visa requirements to all their travel destinations. Please remember that it is your responsibility to obtain the necessary travel documents before the trip.
 
TICKETS AND FINAL DOCUMENTS
Your airline tickets along with final instructions and some additional travel tips will be sent to you by email 7 – 10 days before the scheduled departure of your tour.
 
CLIMATE
Bali’s tropical climate has two distinct seasons: dry season which lasts from May through September, and wet season which lasts from October through April. Even during wet season, this tropical paradise is likely to be sunny for the large part of the day. Enjoy warm temperatures year-round with average highs in the 80’s and nighttime lows in the 70’s!
 
NON-INCLUDED MEALS AND SIGHTSEEING
The hotels used on this tour have several dining choices from coffee shops to specialty restaurants. The average cost for dinner (excluding drinks) is $15 – $20 per meal per person. Optional sightseeing tours and evening activities will be offered. Your hotel will accept credit cards for your non-included meals.
 
CREDIT CARDS AND LOCAL CURRENCY
Hotels and many stores accept major credit cards (with a 3% surcharge). However, for “street shopping” you will need local currency. Your hotels will be able to exchange for you cash to local currency. It is recommended that you bring along cash in small denominations.
 
BAGGAGE
Each passenger may bring one piece of checked-in luggage (suitcase maximum 44 pounds) and one carry-on piece not to exceed 18”x10”x8”. We recommend that you do not over-pack and that you take a variety of separates with climate and comfort in mind.
