Day 1
Depart USA
Your exciting journey to Germany begins as you depart on your overnight flight to Berlin.
Day 2
Arrive in Berlin, Germany
Arrive this morning in Berlin, the capital of Germany. Contrasts between historical buildings and modern architecture, between the traditional and the modern are what set the city apart from the rest. Upon arrival, take a walking tour around the neighborhood of your hotel. After some rest, enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. Crowne Plaza Berlin City Centre or similar (D)
Day 3
Berlin
After breakfast, start your Story of Berlin Tour. Learn about the fascinating history of Berlin during the last century. Visit important sights from the Holocaust and WWII like the Brandenburg Gate, Hitler’s Bunker and the Holocaust Memorial. You also will visit the Berlin Wall and see first hand the juxtaposition of former East and West Berlin. Throughout the tour, experience how Berlin has transformed itself from a dark past to a modern, vibrant city. This afternoon is at your leisure to further delve into the historic sights or perhaps visit the Egyptian Museum of Berlin. (B)
Day 4
Berlin
Today is at your leisure. We recommend an optional tour to the town Potsdam with an inside visit of Cecilienhof House, where the Potsdam Conference took place in 1945. This conference is a symbol of the end of WWII and the beginning of the Cold War. Next, admire the picturesque gardens of Sanssouci Palace, one of the largest and most important parks in Europe, offering a combination of fascinating landscapes and unconventional architecture. The day ends with time at leisure in the town of Potsdam. Enjoy a cup of coffee and cake at one of the quaint cafes located in the Dutch Quarter, built in the 1700s to attract Dutch immigrants. (B)
Day 5
Berlin – Nuremberg
After breakfast, depart for Nuremberg by motorcoach. The journey is through beautiful landscapes. Arrive in Nuremberg, a city in Northern Bavaria that is distinguished by medieval architecture. The city is an energetic place with beer as dark as coffee. It is also a great base to see other Northern Bavarian towns. Today, enjoy a walking tour to the most beautiful corners of the old town and life in medieval Nuremberg. Tonight’s dinner is at a famous local restaurant known for its tradition and cozy atmosphere. Maritim Hotel Nuremberg or similar (B,D)
Day 6
Nuremberg – Rothenburg ob der Tauber – Nuremberg
Today, you will take a drive to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The former imperial town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber is the perfect place to experience medieval and renaissance life in Germany as it was actually lived. Narrow towers and imposing ramparts; winding alleyways and picturesque oriels; half-timbered houses lovingly decorated with window boxes and hanging baskets; colorful gardens made for rest and relaxation; large churches that invite meditation and prayer- these are just some of the things that attract visitors from all over the world! Return back to Nuremberg for your evening at leisure. (B)
Day 7
Nuremberg – Bamberg – Nuremberg
New day and new Bavarian town to explore! Today you will take a drive to Bamberg, a town that is laid out over 7 hills where the Regnitz and Main rivers meet. Its old town preserves structures from the 11th to 19th centuries including the muraled Altes rathaus (town hall), which occupies an island in the Regnitz reached by arched bridges. The Romanesque Bamberg Cathedral, constructed in the 11th century, features four towers and numerous stone carvings. Bamberg is an illustration of the power of the church and the importance of the river in the development of this UNESCO World Heritage site. Return back to Nuremberg for an evening at leisure. (B)
Day 8
Nuremberg – Munich
After breakfast, the group is heading to Munich, the capital city of Bavaria, Germany. It is the third largest city in Germany and similar to Nuremberg in the sense that it is a great base for exploring Bavaria. Munich is an established and posh city, and for those who want to experience traditional Bavaria, there are plenty of beer gardens, beer halls and cultural events. When you arrive, you will enjoy the panoramic tour of the almost 1000 year old city. You’ll visit the Pinakotheks (art galleries), Olympic Stadium, and Nymphenburg Palace. After having seen the modern part of Munich, you will move on to a walking tour through the heart of the city to discover the historic center. The Viktualienmarket (open air market), St. Peter’s Church, City Hall and Church of our Ladies are some of the famous sights you will see. Courtyard Munich City East or similar (B)
Day 9
Munich
This day is at your leisure. Consider an optional tour to Dachau, the town where the first Nazi concentration camp was formed. Dachau was a camp for all the groups the Nazis considered undesirable, especially Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, political opponents and anti-Nazi clergy. The Dachau Museum documents what happened there, the rise of Nazism and the implementation of the Final Solution. If you chose to stay in the city, we recommend experiencing the BMW Group Plant Tour which offers insight into the state of the art automobile manufacturer. Since tickets must be reserved well in advance, and may canceled due to short notice (it is a working factory), we recommend purchasing tickets directly through BMW Welt if a guided plant tour interests you. (B)
Day 10
Munich – Regensburg – Munich
After breakfast, explore Regensburg, a Bavarian city on the Danube River in southeast Germany. The city is the political, economic and cultural centre of Eastern Bavaria. Regensburg is known for its well-preserved medieval core and rise of traders. After your visit, get a taste of cruising on the Danube and take a short boat ride through the dramatic Danube narrows and end in Kelheim, known for the Weltenburg Abbey, a historic monarchy with possibly the oldest monastic brewery in the world dating back to 1050. Return to Munich for an evening at leisure. (B)
Day 11
Munich – Oberammergau – Neuschwanstein Castle – Munich
This morning, travel to Oberammergau, the town famous for more than the Passion Play. Oberammergau has stunning frescos on the homes depicting religions scenes, Bavarian themes and fairytales. Continue to the ethereal Neuschwanstein Castle, sculptured out of the mountains. This castle was built in the 19th century by the famed “mad” King Ludwig II, a man intoxicated by the mythology and who himself became a legend. It is the inspiration for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle and is famous the world over as the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Castle.

*Please kindly note the walk up to Castle Neuschwanstein takes approximately 30 mins. Alternatively, there are horse carriages that take guests up close to the Castle. From the drop off point of the carriage, it is a 5-minute walk. Horse carriages or coaches cannot be reserved- costs for transfer are not included, subject to availability and to be paid locally. The queue for a horse coach or coach transfer can be very long, especially during high season. The tour at the Castle includes a lot of walking up and down stairs. If ascending to the castle will be arduous, customers can remain at the bottom of the hill and enjoy some free time at the local restaurants and shops.

After this fairy tale day, enjoy a farewell dinner with your other travelers at a local Bavarian tavern. (B, D)
Day 12
Munich – USA
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight to the U.S Return home full of wonderful memories of Germany. (B)
