Day 1
Depart USA.
Your fascinating Blue Danube Cruise with Prague & Munich begins as you depart on your overnight flight to Europe.
Day 2
Arrive Prague (Czech Republic).
Arrive in Prague, one of Europe’s most vibrant and colorful cities. The beautiful city of Prague was built on seven hills and served as a former capital of the Roman Empire. Upon arrival, transfer to your centrally-located, superior first class hotel followed by dinner. Majestic Plaza Hotel (D)
Day 3
Prague.
After a delightful buffet breakfast, embark on your morning tour of the impressive Upper Hradcani Castle area, where you’ll explore the Golden Lane with Kafka’s House, St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George’s Basilica, the Castle Gardens, and of course the Old Royal Palace, the former residence of Bohemian Kings. After free time for lunch on your own, you’ll walk across the famous Charles Bridge to the “Lesser Town”, famous for its Astronomical Clock, Tyn Cathedral, Powder Tower, Celetna Lane, and the Jewish Quarter. This evening, rejoice in a festive welcome dinner at an authentic local restaurant with music, dancing, and mug of famous Czech beer. (B,D)
Day 4
Prague/Budejovice/Passau (Austria)/Set Sail.
After breakfast, depart Prague for Ceske Budejovice, home of the original Budweiser. Your walking tour of the old city will end at the original brewery where you’ll have a chance to taste an original Budweiser and enjoy lunch. Later, continue to Passau where you’ll embark your deluxe ship, MS Select Explorer, your floating hotel for the next 7 nights as you sail along the Blue Danube. Enjoy a welcome cocktail and meet your experienced, friendly, and English-speaking crew. Set sail to Melk and enjoy your first dinner on board. MS Select Explorer (B,L,D)
Day 5
Melk Abbey Tour/Vienna (Austria).
Wake up on the beautiful Danube river and enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast. This morning, you’ll visit the imposing Benedictine Abbey, founded in the late 11th century with its current building completed in the early 18th century. One of Austria’s great cultural highlights, today it is one of Europe’s largest repositories of medieval manuscripts and an absolute “must see” on any Danube cruise. Later, return to the ship for lunch as you set sail for Vienna, the magnificent center of the Hapsburg Empire. Arrive this evening in time for an optional concert or cultural performance. (B,L,D)
Day 6
Vienna (Austria).
After breakfast, explore the city’s glorious past on a panoramic tour taking you to the ornate State Opera, Emperor Franz Josef’s Hofburg Palace, the Parliament, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Burghtheater, and the Rathous. Return to the ship for lunch before an afternoon for independent exploration or an optional Schonbrunn Palace. This evening, enjoy dinner on the ship and continue sailing. (B,L,D)
Day 7
Budapest (Hungary).
This morning, you’ll wake up in Budapest, the delightful Hungarian capital and one of Eastern Europe’s most lively cities! After breakfast, embark on a city tour of the major highlights, including the famous Parliament Building, Buda Castle Hill, Heroes’ Square, Gellert Hill with the Citadelle and Freedom Monument, and Fisherman’s Bastion, where you’ll enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. This evening, explore the beautiful pedestrian zone of Vaci Utca or participate in the optional Budapest by Night tour which will include a typical Hungarian goulash dinner with folklore at a local restaurant followed by a drive up to Mt. Gellert for fabulous views of the city’s illuminated bridges spanning the Danube. (B,L,D)

Day 8
Budapest.
This morning is free to explore Budapest on your own. Perhaps you’ll head to the famous open market next to the port, or if you’re an animal lover, perhaps you’ll take the optional Puzsta tour at a nearby horse farm to view a live equestrian performance. The balance of the day is at leisure. (B,L,D)
Day 9
Bratislava (Slovakia).
Today, you’ll wake up in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia situated at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. Your city tour will feature the Palace Grassalkovich, a panoramic view from the Castle Hill, and a relaxing city walk passing St. Martin’s Church, the former University of Bratislava, Primate’s Palace, Opera House and Ganymede Fountain. This afternoon, set sail for your next destination along the Danube – Duernstein!  (B,L,D)
Day 10
Duernstein (Austria).
Today, you’ll enjoy the charming old village of Duernstein, located in the heart of the picturesque Wachau Valley. Your walking tour takes you through the historical center and from here you have a wonderful view of the surrounding area and castle ruins. Then, enjoy a visit to a local winer, where you’ll enjoy a taste of three of Wachau’s famous wines! Return to ship and continue sailing. This evening, you’ll enjoy your Captain’s Farewell Dinner.  (B,L,D)
Day 11
Passau/Munich.
This morning, bid farewell to your lovely crew as you disembark and transfer to Munich, Bavaria’s famous capital and world famous for its Oktoberfest and Bayern soccer (or football) club. Your city tour will include the renowned Hofbrauhaus, the National Theater with the Royal Palace, Marienplatz and more! Later, check in to your centrally-located, superior first class hotel before your farewell dinner at one of Munich’s classic beer halls or gardens where you’ll enjoy a festive Bavarian meal and a mug of its famous beer. Day 12
Munich/USA.
After breakfast, transfer to the airport and board your return flight. Your fascinating voyage ends as you arrive New York later today. (B) 

MS Select Explorer

The MS Select Explorer is an elegant river cruise vessel, built in the Netherlands in 2001 and renovated in 2013. She combines classical elegance with a cozy atmosphere and features 77 cabins and 8 suites. The cabins are all outside facing and are divided in 5 cabin types (including Junior Suites): Category D Standard Cabins on Lower Deck are fitted with two fixed portholes. Category C Comfort Cabins located on the Middle Deck bow have two fixed windows, and Category B Superior Cabins on the Middle Deck feature large panoramic windows. Category A Deluxe Cabins on the Upper Deck have a French Balcony with sliding doors. Junior Suites, also on the Upper Deck, feature a French Balcony and include extra amenities such as a sitting area, a large TV with a DVD player and a mini bar. All cabins (except for Junior Suites) are 14 sq m (150 sq ft) and are equipped with individual air conditioning, TVs, safe deposit boxes, hairdryers and bathrooms with shower & toilet. Junior Suites are considerably larger at 21 sq m (226 sq ft). Public areas include an elegant restaurant, a large Panorama lounge with floor to ceiling windows, a cozy library and a covered Sky Lounge on the Sun deck offering superb views of the passing countryside! A vivacious crew of 36 ensure a wonderful cruise experience!

Your flights from New York’s JFK Airport to Europe are on the following airlines with the corresponding schedules.  We recommend that you arrive at the airport at least 3 ½ hours before the scheduled departure.

Please make sure to allow sufficient time for clearing immigration and customs if you are planning a connecting flight.  We recommend at least 3 ½ hours.  Please keep in mind that flight schedules are always subject to change.

ADVANCE SEAT ASSIGNMENT

Please note that Swiss Airlines and Iberia Airlines do not assign seats in advance. Seat assignments can only be arranged upon check-in at the airport. Please note that smarTours is not involved in your seat assignment. It is between you and the airline!

PASSPORT AND VISA INFORMATION

You must be in possession of a passport valid for at least 6 months after the date of travel. American citizens do not require a visa to enter the countries visited. Non U.S. citizens should check with the respective consulates of the countries visited on this tour as to the most current visa requirements. Please remember that it is your responsibility to obtain the necessary travel documents before the trip.

TICKETS AND FINAL DOCUMENTS

Your airline tickets along with final instruction and some additional travel tips will be sent to you 10 – 7 days before the scheduled departure of your tour.  Please advise us in writing should your address change.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

Immunizations are NOT currently required; however, you may wish to consult your personal physician or local public health authorities as to their suggestions.

CLIMATE

You may expect day time temperatures averaging in the 70’s in June, July and August, 60’s in May and September, and 50’s in April and October.

CREDIT CARDS AND LOCAL CURRENCY

The currency used aboard the ship is the Euro! You will have an opportunity to exchange US dollars to Euros at the beginning of your trip. You may also purchase Euros in the USA before departure. The ship does not have currency exchange facilities. Traveler’s checks are not accepted aboard the ship nor are they widely accepted in the smaller towns and villages along the route. For incidental expenses onboard (excluding optional tours) you may also use Visa or Mastercard but a small service fee will apply. During visits to major cities and on shore excursions, you will find that many of the small souvenir vendors may accept US dollars or Euros as payment.

BAGGAGE

Each passenger may bring one piece of checked-in luggage (suitcase) max. 44 pounds and one carry-on piece. Carry on must not exceed 18”x10”x8”. We recommend that you do not over-pack and that you take a variety of separates with climate and comfort in mind.
