Day 1
Depart USA/Arrive Bogota.
Your exciting journey to Colombia begins with an afternoon flight to Bogota, the capital of Colombia that rests on a high plateau in the Andes Mountains. Here, you’ll experience the mix of colonial grandeur and the vitality of a modern metropolis. Founded in the 16th century by Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Jimenez de Quezada, the city is home to a dazzling array of museums, churches, colonial mansions, and stately buildings. Upon arrival in Colombia’s cultural, political and financial center, transfer to your upscale hotel where you’ll enjoy a welcome drink. Atton Bogota 93
Day 2
After breakfast this morning, drive from Bogota to Zipaquira to visit the famous underground salt cathedral, where a church is carved from salt inside of a cave. Some of you will experience a deeply spiritual, religious moment, while others will celebrate this artistic and engineering masterpiece. Here, you’ll find monumental crosses, angels, and the Madonna statue, and in addition to the main cathedral, there are several small chapels and 14 Stations of the Cross interconnected through labyrinthine tunnels. Drive back to Bogota and visit the famous Gold Museum, which displays the world’s largest selection of pre-Hispanic gold work. Tonight enjoy your welcome dinner at your hotel. (B,D)
Day 3
Tour Bogota/Coffee Triangle.
After a sumptuous breakfast, venture to the local market of Paloquemao. Next drive to the mountain top of Guadalupe, adjacent to Monserrate, where you’ll enjoy a marvelous view of the city. Followed by a visit to the colonial part of the city, La Candelaria, Bogota’s heart and soul, known for its Spanish and Baroque-style architecture. See the Fernando Botero Museum, created in 2000 after a generous donation by the world famous artist himself of 123 pieces of his own art. Botero’s art should be instantly recognizable with its oversized, larger-than-life style. The museum also features works of art by Picasso, Renoir, Matisse, Monet, Chagall and many others. Later, transfer to the airport and fly to the magical Coffee Triangle. Hotel Allure Cafe Mocawa Resort (B,D)

Day 4
As its name suggests, the Coffee Triangle is covered with coffee plantations due to its nutrient-rich volcanic soil in the hilly terrain. Not only does the land produce some of the world’s finest coffee, but it also produces breathtaking landscapes throughout the region. For many people, the Coffee Triangle is the heart and soul of Colombia, where Campesino (or rural life) has remained largely intact over the centuries. In the morning, visit first the coffee Hacienda Morelia and immerse yourself in the world of coffee. A coffee specialist will teach you the ins and outs of coffee production — from drying to roasting and everything in between. After learning the tricks of the trade, make your way to Hacienda San Alberto, the most awarded coffee producer in Colombia, where a master of coffee will lead you to taste and identify the different flavors in a top quality, freshly brewed cup of coffee. After returning to your hotel, the afternoon is at leisure before enjoying a delicious dinner this evening. (B,D)

Day 5
After breakfast, enjoy a spectacular drive to Cocora Valley through the region of Quindio and make sure you have your cameras ready to capture the magnificent landscape. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with a special welcome cocktail. Here, you’ll find the highest palm tree in the world, the Palma de Cera, and a brief Colombian ritual will help you understand the history of these unique palm trees. Then, after leaving the valley, you’ll reach the quaint village of Salento, where you’ll have time to walk through the narrow streets and appreciate the Baroque and Spanish-inspired buildings with colorful balconies. Later, visit the village of Filandia, where you’ll enjoy a magnificent view of the Cordilleras of the Colombian Andes and gain an appreciation for how small pueblos (or villages) are the foundation of rural life in Colombia. (B,L)
Day 6
Coffee Triangle/Medellin
After breakfast and likely a cup (or two) of coffee, embark on a drive through the mountains to Medellin. You’ll enjoy spectacular mountain landscapes as you pass through several changes of climate and altitude. Along the way, stop for lunch at an authentic Colombian restaurant before continuing on these beautiful rural backdrops. Arrive at Medellin, the second-largest city in Colombia, the home of famous artist Fernando Botero, and the best example of the country’s renaissance. Transfer to your upscale hotel, and spend the evening at your leisure.  Estelar Milla de Oro Hotel (B,L)
Day 7

After breakfast, traveling by “Metro Cable” to the neighborhood of Santo Domingo, home to the famous Parque Biblioteca. Explore downtown Medellin and visit the Berrio Park. Then, visit the Sculpture Park of Botero and mingle with the fascinating larger-than-life sculptures. After lunch, continue with the Metro to the “Comuna 13”, once an inaccessible area, today famous for their nice graffiti and unique electric stairs that go up the mountain. Later, visit the Plaza Mayor, Park Pies Descalzos and the Museum of Modern Art before returning to your hotel. (B,L)

Day 8
Start your day with a delicious breakfast and enjoy your leisure morning. In time, transfer to the airport and fly to the amazing coastal city of Cartagena before heading to your upscale hotel which faces the Caribbean Sea. Hotel Capilla del Mar (B)

Day 9

Founded in the early 16th century by Spaniard Pedro de Heredia, Cartagena has it all. It is a historical gem, a symbol of modern Colombia, and a spectacular beach destination. Cartagena’s charming old town is surrounded by thick walls, which were originally intended to fortify the city and took an astonishing to 200 years to build and complete.
Enjoy a guided city tour that begins with a visit to the Museum of Modern Art. Visit the fortress of San Felipe, built by the Spanish during the colonial era and located on the Hill of San Lazaro. Later, walk along the the colorful streets and winding alleyways of Cartagena’s walled old town before visiting the Convent of San Pedro. End your guided tour with a trip to the fascinating Emerald Museum. The afternoon is at leisure. (B)

Day 10
It’s your day to either continue exploring the cultural sights of Cartagena or simply enjoy a day at the nearby beaches that attract visitors from all around the world. Later, enjoy an included delicious farewell dinner at a local restaurant. (B,D)
Day 11
Early this morning, transfer to the airport and say adios to Colombia! Your amazing journey ends as you arrive in Miami today. (B)

Discover Colombia

Just returned from this trip in June 2016. It was an amazing tour and it really portrayed the country as it truly is. The people were great and let me say the service at the hotels and everywhere was awesome. The accommodations were excellent. The scenery of the country was unbelievable. Kudos to our Tour Director, Leon as well as the local guides Carlitos (Coffee Triangle/Medellin) and Eusevio (Cartagena) for making this trip so much fun. They are friendly, fun, knowledgeable and their English was great. Our drivers were very experienced and always concerned about safety first which was very good. Our group was very small but we had a great time. Thank you to all for the wonderful vacation. I recommend this trip highly.

Loved our Colombia Tour

This May we returned from a wonderful and interesting trip to Colombia where we visited Bogota, Coffee Triangle, Medellin, and Cartagena. We felt safe and enjoyed the diversified landscapes, history, friendly people, delicious food, and very knowledgeable and caring guides. Leon and Alejandro went out of their way to share and teach us about their culture. We visited flower, fruit and vegetable markets, sugar cane factories, coffee plantations, in which we had many tastings and watched local people working. The coffee was extremely good. The underground salt cathedral was amazing along with the Emerald, Botero and Gold museums. There were many quaint colorful villages to meander thru witnessing rural life in and around the town squares. The hotels were all high end with gr8 breakfasts. The cities were exciting and easy to get around. Leon would always take or direct us to a delicious authentic Colombian restaurant for lunch and dinner. The sea in Cartagena was delightful to swim in. We cannot thank Leon and Alejandro for making our experience so special, comfortable, informative, and fun. We are well seasoned travelers and feel Colombia is a must visit.

It's Colombia, not Columbia

As my husband and I prepared for our travel to Colombia, our friends and family asked "Why Colombia", aren't you afraid of being kidnapped? Or,"I've heard they drug people and sell the parts on e-bay".
What my husband and I experienced in Colombia was far from either of these! Colombia is a proud welcoming country, excited to share their amazing history and culture. It is a country working extremely hard to overcome and endure their past and provide a good future for their people. Our tour guide "Leon Pardo", was excellent, as was his counter part "Carlito", in the coffee region. Colombia was an amazing place to travel and enjoy and just as they claim, the hardest part was never wanting to leave!

A really good trip to Colombia

My wife Jackie and I just finished a truely exceptional trip to Colombia. We visited Bogota, the Coffee Triangle, Medellin, Cartagena and many points in between. Everything about Colombia was new to us and the trip exceeded our expectations. Our tour director Leon Pardo was close to perfect, as was the driver (Julian)-local guide (Omar) combination in the Coffee Triangle and Medellin. The hotels were great. The scenery was quite varied and uniformly beautiful. The city of Cartagena was a wonderful place to end this trip.

We truly enjoyed this tour...our tour guide David was excellent as were the local guides.
I would make a few changes to the itinerary..... one more day is needed in Bogata and Medillin. You could cut one day off the coffee triangle. Add one day to the entire trip....leave on a Friday instead of Sat. Finally, try to switch airlines to Avianca which have direct flights from Medillin to Cartegena. THe hotels were fine .....
Overall we loved the tour and will continue to choose SMARTOURS for future travel.
This was our 4th tour on smartours!!
THANK YOU.....Ellen and Henry Cohen
