Day 1

Depart USA.
Your unforgettable journey to visit Morocco begins as you depart this evening on your overnight flight to Morocco.

Day 2

Arrive Casablanca.
A morning arrival in Casablanca, one of the largest and most important cities in all of Africa, where you’ll be greeted at the airport by your tour director. With its origins dating back to 7th-century BC, Casablanca is the economic and cultural capital of Morocco and home to a wide variety of influences – from French to Spanish to Portuguese to Arab to British. After departing the airport, enjoy a guided tour, starting with a visit to exterior of the enormous and ornate Hassan II Mosque, the largest mosque in North Africa and the third largest in the world. Travel through Casablanca’s residential areas on your way to city center where you’ll see some of the city’s other highlights, including Mohamed V Square, the Habous quarter, and the Notre Dame de Lourdes Cathedral. Then, arrive at your upscale hotel where you will have an orientation meeting followed by a welcome dinner. Novotel Casablanca City Center Hotel (D)

Day 3

After a sumptuous breakfast, travel to Marrakesh, the “Red City”, a majestic place filled with palaces, gardens, markets, and mosques. Your afternoon tour of the city starts with a visit to the 16th-century Saadian Tombs, where approximately 60 members of the Saadi Dynasty found their final resting place.  Your fascinating city tour will also include the Koutoubia Mosque with its iconic minaret and the stunning Bahia Palace. You’ll then enjoy one of the highlights of any trip to Marrakesh – walk through the UNESCO World Heritage Medina with its palm readers, snake charmers, acrobats, and musicians before arriving at the spectacular Jemaa El Fna. Evening at leisure. Le Meridien N’Fis Hotel (B)

Day 4

Essouira Excursion.
This morning, after breakfast, enjoy a full day excursion to Essaouira, a charming and exotic seaside town on the Atlantic coast. En route to Essaouira, visit the Marjana Cooperative where you’ll observe the extraction of Argan Oil, the demand for which has increased significantly due to its use in both cosmetics and western cuisine. Essaouira, with its beautiful fortified walls and busy fishing harbor, is known as the “Windy City of Africa” and has preserved a truly Moroccan charm. You’ll walk along the city walls north of Moulay Hassan Square and then continue on Skala de la Ville where you will enjoy an unmatched view of the city’s port and its beautiful collection of bright blue fishing boats. Explore the Medina, where artists continue to hone their crafts just as they have for centuries and merchants in the many souks (or markets) will have plenty to offer, including spices and jewelry. Return to Marrakesh for an evening at leisure. (B)

Day 5

Enjoy a day at leisure in Marrakesh to explore at your own pace. We recommend a half-day optional tour where you’ll learn to make the traditional Berber dish, couscous. You’ll also visit the Majorelle Gardens, designed by French expat Jacques Majorelle in the 1920s and 1930s when Morocco was a protectorate of France. Evening at leisure or enjoy an optional excursion through the streets of Marrakesh on a horse-drawn carriage followed by an authentic Moroccan dinner with live music and bellydancing. (B)

Day 6

Marrakesh/Boumalne Dades.
After breakfast, bid farewell to Marrakesh and journey across the High Atlas Mountains and the spectacular Tichka Pass on your way to Boumalne Dades. Stop for a brief tour of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A giant fortification, it is a unique example of pise clay architecture and one of the filming locations for several films and TV shows, including Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Enjoy lunch on your own before arriving in Dades, located at the edge of the Sahara Desert, where you’ll be swept away on your orientation tour by the magnificent canyons and breathtaking landscapes. Arrive at your upscale hotel where you’ll enjoy an included dinner. Xaluca Hotel (B,D)

Day 7

Boumalne Dades/Erfoud.
Today, travel to Erfoud, widely described as an “oasis” in the Sahara Desert. Along the way, marvel at one of Morocco’s most visited natural sights, the lush Todra Palmeraie Gorge, with dramatic 985-foot high walls that will make for spectacular photographs along your walking tour, so be sure to have your camera ready! Continue on to Erfoud, the gateway to the desert, where you’ll check in and relax with dinner at your deluxe hotel. Kasbah Hotel Xaluca Erfoud (B,D)

Day 8
Sahara Desert Experience.
After breakfast, enjoy an unforgettable, full-day included excursion through the Erg Chebbi, the largest sand desert in Morocco. You’ll begin by discovering the town of Rissani, formerly a caravan center and still an important commercial center in the region, with a large and vibrant souk at its center.  Then, head into the desert via a 4×4 caravan and discover various small villages until you reach Tissardmine, a serene village where you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch before ascending to the peak of Erg Chebbi. This stunning view of the vast surrounding desert will take your breath away, and you’ll trade automobiles for camels for the authentic Moroccan travel experience. One of the highlights of the trip, a journey through the Merzouga dunes on camelback, should leave you with memories that will last a lifetime (and amazing pictures as well)! Return to your upscale hotel after sunset and enjoy an included dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 9

Today, journey through the beautiful Middle Atlas mountain range, with its thick woods filled with lush cedar and oak trees en route to Fez. Along the way, you’ll pass through Ifrane, a picturesque ski town, and Azrou, known for its cedar wood handicrafts. As you enter Fez, there is a breathtaking view of the ancient city from a hill overlooking the medina. Barcelo Hotel (B)

Day 10

A full day is devoted to exploring Fez, the capital of Morocco for more than 400 years and the oldest of the imperial cities. With the help of a local expert, tour the Fez el Bali Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Life here takes place as it did centuries ago in one of the largest and best-preserved medieval fortified cities in the world. Wander the famous souks known for authentic Moroccan carpets and ceramics. Dine at a traditional riad for a light lunch within the medina.  You will also have the chance to visit the Nejjarine Fountains and Museum and the 14th-century Attarine Medersas (a place of education). In the afternoon, visit Fez Jdid, the modern district of the city, where you’ll explore the Jewish Quarter and the Royal Palace. (B,L)

Day 11

After breakfast, drive to Rabat, Morocco’s capital and fifth largest city. En route, visit the ancient ruins of the Roman city of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its wonderfully-preserved original mosaics, Roman Road, and city layout. Then continue with a visit Meknes and see the magnificent Bab Mansour gate, featuring marble columns taken from Roman ruins and ornate zellij mosaics. The balance of the day at leisure. Le Diwan Rabat Hotel (B)

Day 12
Following breakfast, spend the morning touring the many fascinating historic sites in Morocco’s coastal capital of Rabat. You’ll see the 19th-century Royal Palace and the city’s “Gate of the Winds” (also known as Bab Rouah). Visit Hassan Tower, the minaret of an incomplete mosque that was originally intended to be the world largest.  Construction started in 1195 and then came to a halt in 1199 after Sultan Yacoub al-Mansour passed away. Continue on to the picturesque Kasbah of the Udayas, built in the mid 12th-century, where you’ll walk through the French-colonial gardens and explore the fortress built to shield royalty from attacks. Your tour of the capital city will conclude at Chellah, a necropolis and the site of the ruins of Roman town known as Sala Colonia. The balance of your day is at leisure. Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner with your group. (B,D)

Day 13

After breakfast, transfer to the airport in Casablanca for your return non-stop flight. Your memorable journey on your Morocco tours come to an end as you arrive back in the USA later today. (B)

2018 Moroccan Magic

It's January 2018, and I just returned from Morocco. What an amazing trip, due in great part to our guide, Abdelkader, who was patient, professional and very knowledgeable about the country he obviously loves. I was blown away by the diversity of the Moroccan landscape - the dessert, forest, seaside and lush cropland. The architecture, tile work and textiles were incredible. This Smartours trip is planned to give you a well-rounded view of a gorgeous place whose people are kind, food is delicious and shopping is rewarding - you can't resist the array of slippers they sell in the souks. This was my 8th Smartour and definitely among the best.

Fabulous tour guide/country

Independent, world travelers, we went on this tour (first-time tour experience, Oct. 17-29, 2017) because there was so much ground to be covered in a limited time. KHALID LAMDIRA, our tour guide, was the essence and the heart of this exotic country tour. He and his team, the bus driver, our various assistants and local guides along the way, were superb. Khalid's vast knowledge (social, cultural, historical geographical, religious), engaging and humorous presentations, and his deft interpersonal skill (especially his great sense of humor) made this a highlight of a lifetime of traveling. We laughed a lot. Food quality and diversity were excellent, all lodging outstanding (some "romantic" and exotic). Would unequivocally recommend SmarTours organization, Khalid, and Majestic Morocco tour. One caveat: 2-3 days of bus travel is necessary to see all four of Morocco's fascinating imperial cities -- which is the primary reason we decided to take a tour. Yep, we'd do it all over again. If we could go on tours for the rest of our lives hosted by Khalid, we'd tour forever. Thanks, Khalid! Thanks, SmarTours!

Your comments

Would someone who has just returned from the Moroccan tour please contact me, I will be going in October and have some questions. As you have been there, you would be the best person/people to talk with. Would most appreciate it. My email address is Thank you.

My wife and I had a terrific time touring Morocco in May for two weeks. Tour guide Safi was amazing. He took great care that everyone had the best possible experience every single day. I can't say enough good things about this kind man. His understanding of Moroccan history and the countryside added so much to the experience.

This was the first organized tour we have taken, after doing a lot of travel on our own over the years. We were both happy we did the Smartours excursion and learned so much more and saw more than if we had arranged this ourselves.

Morocco is a wonderful country, the people were friendly and the hotels Smartours arranged for our group were so unique and memorable.

I just returned from my Morroco tour and have to say what a great trip! Our tour guide, Safi, was probably one of the best guides I've had. The tour gave a great overview of the country, and the hotels were excellent.

Superb Tour - especially the Guide

This tour covered most of Morocco and gave us a great overall view of this interesting country. Our tour guide, Larby, was a walking Wikipedia and if there was a question he could not answer, he would research it and answer the following day. He was more than a tour leader - he was a friend and a caregiver and one could not have a better or nicer leader. Hotels and food were excellent and SmarTours went above and beyond when the workers at our hotel in Fes went on strike and they not only moved us to a better hotel just down the street, but also took us out for a meal the next day. The care and consideration for us was amazing. The extra activites offered were interesting and reasonable and the help we were offered to arrange personal appointments was timely and helpful. The best was naturally the camel ride. The high point of the tour.

I can highly recommend this tour to everyone interested in seeing a highly interesting country, a bridge between so many cultures.

Morocco Beyond Expectations

People do not realize how special Morocco is or how wonderful the people are until they take this tour. All of our stops in Morocco were amazing and gave us a very diverse understanding of the country. Larbi, our guide made it so special with his knowledge and his care of each one of us to make our trip beyond expectations.

by Mary Ellen Newman on smarTours

I also was on the Nov 1-13,2016 Morocco tour. It was marvelous. Our guide Larbi was extremely well informed and friendly to all. He went out of his way to help people get the most out of the trip by helping people see what was important to them . Anytime he did not know the answer to one of our questions, he promptly found the answer. I learned so much about the country - the history, the food, the customs and saw much of what the country has to offer. A great trip!

Awesome Experience

We just returned from the Majestic Morocco Tour ending November 13 and we were truly overwhelmed with the experience. The tour guide Larbi El Mahdar was incredible, he was gracious and kind and his goal appeared to be ensure that our visit was a success! and he accomplished that. His knowledge was great, he helped each individual as if they were the only person on the trip. He was a great representative for Morocco as we referred to him as the "Minister of Tourism" throughout the trip. Our entire trip was enjoyable due to the accommodations and the way he handled each person's unique need. Thank you Larbi for ensuring our trip was a great experience!

Incredible Experience

We just finished our tour an hour ago and I have to write and rave about this wonderful experience. Everything exceeded our expectaions. We have taken close to 20 SmarTours trips and this will be a favourite. Our guide, Larbi El Mahdar was superb. He was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge, so helpful and patient, anticipated potential problems and solved them before they could happen. He was always happy and kind (even after answering the same question repeatedly). The tour was filled with diverse interesting sites and experiences. The evening camel ride and sunset in the Sahara was incredible. Hotels, meals, and the bus are pleasant, comfortable, and excellent.
