Day 1
Depart USA.
Your fascinating journey to your glorious South America tours begin as you depart this evening on your overnight flight bound for Chile.
Day 2
Arrive Santiago (Chile).
Morning arrival in Santiago, the bustling capital of Chile, located between the Pacific Ocean and the majestic Andes. On arrival, ride up to the top of San Cristobal Hill for a bird’s eye view of the city and the Andean mountain range. Later, learn more about Santiago’s charms and history from a local expert that leads you on a tour of the Plaza de Armas, the city’s main square and the nearby Cathedral. You’ll also see the Palacio de la Moneda and the Bohemian section of Bellavista. Your tour concludes upon arrival at your upscale hotel where the balance of the afternoon is at leisure. Tonight join your Tour Director and fellow travelers for a briefing followed by a welcome dinner. Hotel Atton Vitacura (D)
Day 3
Full day at leisure to explore independently. We recommend an optional excursion to discover the enchanting towns of Vina del Mar and Valparaiso on the Pacific Coast as well as Chile’s thriving wine making industry. (B)
Day 4
Santiago/Puerto Montt/Puerto Varas.
Today board a short flight to the southern port city of Puerto Montt, gateway to the Chilean Lake District. Upon arrival, enjoy a magnificent lookout over the city and bay before driving to the nearby charming village of Puerto Varas. Arrive at your charming hotel, conveniently located within walking distance of the magnificent lake. On a clear day, you’ll enjoy a view of Mount Osorno, a beautiful snow-covered volcano. Day 5
Lake Region/Bariloche (Argentina).
Today’s unforgettable excursion is reputed to be one of the most scenic in the world. Traverse the Andean Mountains through the Lake District from Chile to Argentina. Enjoy dramatic landscapes, spectacular emerald green lakes, gushing waterfalls, snow-capped volcanoes and dense forests. The breathtaking scenery unfolds as you journey along winding roads overlooking the magical lakes of Chile’s Puyehue National Park into Argentina’s equally amazing Nahuel Huapi National Park. Arrive in quaint Villa Angostura and embark on a boat ride to view the striking Arrayanes Forest with its rare and ancient Myrtle trees. Day 6
Set in idyllic scenery reminiscent of the Swiss Alps, Bariloche is a splendid lake-side town, easily explored from your centrally located hotel. An included walking tour features a visit to the engaging Patagonia Museum. Later, explore on your own, relax or shop for knit woolen sweaters and delicious locally made chocolate. Or you may wish to enjoy an optional “Small Circuit Tour”, recognized by National Geographic as one of the 10 most scenic drives in the world. (B)
Day 7
Bariloche/Buenos Aires.
Fly to Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital, often called “Paris of the South”. The city is a great mix of European heritage and Latin spirit, evident in architecture, culture and lifestyle. Drive through the Avenida 9 de Julio, the world’s widest avenue, to your downtown hotel. MGallery Brick Hotel (formerly Caesar Park) (B)
Day 8
On this morning’s guided tour see the Plaza de Mayor, the famous Opera House and the historic La Boca district. Proceed to the elegant Recoleta district and the cemetery where Evita Peron is buried. Afternoon at leisure. Tonight, you are our guest for a delicious dinner and an exhilarating tango show, South America’s passionate dance. (B,D)
Day 9
Travel outside the city on a full day excursion to the Argentine Pampas. Visit an estancia (ranch) and enjoy a sumptuous barbecue lunch followed by a Gaucho Fiesta, complete with gaucho riding and folklore show. (B,L) 
Day 10
A full day at leisure. Why not take a “behind the scenes” tour of the ornate Colon Opera House, visit the shops lining the renowned Florida Street, or relax in one of the many outdoor cafes and parks. You may also enjoy the optional half day Tigre Delta tour on the outskirts of Buenos Aires and enjoy the beautiful rivers, streams, and numerous green islands. (B)
Day 11
Buenos Aires/Iguassu Falls (Argentina).
After breakfast board a short flight to the Argentinean side of Iguassu Falls. You’ll soon discover why this is considered one of the greatest natural wonders of the world! Set at the border of Argentina and Brazil, the falls consist of 275 inlets and cataracts that send their cascades roaring 250 feet below. Enjoy a ride on a gas-propelled train that takes you to the upper falls circuit and the Devil’s Throat, the prominent and one of the highest falls. Enjoy a walk along the Iguassu river canyon to appreciate the flora and fauna and to get an up-close look at the approximately 270 waterfalls. Proceed to your deluxe hotel and enjoy an included dinner this evening. Mercure Hotel (B,D)

Day 12
Enjoy a day at leisure, where you’ll have the option to return to the Falls or perhaps visit the indigenous Guarani community and the spectacular Wanda mines. (B)

Day 13

Iguassu/Mendoza (Argentina).
Today, fly via Buenos Aires to Mendoza, the wine capital of Argentina and home to breathtaking panoramic views. Mendoza is filled with rivers, valleys, canyons, and the imposing Andean range, with the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere, the Aconcagua Mountain. Upon arrival in Mendoza this evening, transfer to your deluxe and centrally-located hotel. Hotel Diplomatic Park Suites (B)

Day 14

Today, you’ll explore magnificent Mendoza, which boasts 70% of the vineyards of Argentina and is one of the key wine regions in the world. The region is perhaps most famous for the delicious Malbec grape. You’ll visit two different vineyards and enjoy tastings of course. One vineyard will highlight the more old-fashioned, craft/handmade production, and the other will show more of the high tech approach. In both cases, you’ll surely enjoy these special wines! Later, take  walk through the city center of Mendoza. Tonight, celebrate with your fellow travelers at at your farewell dinner. (B,D)

Day 15

Depart Mendoza.
After a morning at leisure, transfer to the airport to begin your trip home to the United States. Board a flight this evening to Santiago de Chile, where you will then connect on to the United States. (B)
Day 16
Arrive USA.
Your exciting South American vacations end as you arrive in the USA this morning in either Miami or New York.


Optional Tours

To enhance your visit on our South America tours and have it feel more complete and memorable, your Tour Director you will offer several optional tours. Rates are approximates in US Dollars and are subject to change based on fluctuation of exchange rates and suppliers rates. Payment should be made in US dollars by cash. Credit cards are not accepted. Optional tours are subject to a minimum number of participants and may be canceled if this minimum is not met. Additional optional tours may be added for your enjoyment.

Full Day Vina del Mar, Valparaiso, and Winery Tour ($85 per person)
Enjoy a lovely full-day excursion exploring Chile’s enchanting Pacific Coast and the thriving wine making industry. Travel through lush countryside to Viña del Mar, Chile’s oceanfront sophisticated summer resort. Continue to Valparaiso, Chile’s second largest city where 17 steep hills tower over the port, abuzz with activity. This picturesque city has twisted cobblestone alleys and ancient ascensores, electric cable cars that climb into hillside neighborhoods and afford splendid sea views. Walk through the colorful streets and stop at one of the charming seaside restaurants where you may have lunch at your own expense. This afternoon visit William Cole Vineyard in Chile’s famous wine growing region. Here, enjoy a guided tour of the winery and a wine tasting before departing back to Santiago. (A minimum of 5 participants required)

Afternoon “Small Circuit Tour” ($79 per person)
On this afternoon excursion explore the stunning beauty of the area surrounding Bariloche. Drive along the Nahuel Huapi Lake on a winding road. After crossing the residential district Melipal, arrive at Playa Bonita, located just in front of Huemul Island. After enjoying different kinds of landscape, arrive at the base of Campanario Mountain, where you take a chair lift ride to the 3400 feet summit from where breathtaking views appear: lakes Nahuel Huapi and Moreno, the Trebol pond, St. Peter’s Peninsula, Llao Llao, Victoria Island and Otto, Lopez, Goye and Cathedral Mountains and the whole town of Bariloche. Continue to the Llao Llao peninsula, where the small and delicate St. Edwards Chapel and Llao Lloa Hotel, two architectural jewels are located. Proceed to the Angostura Bridge, crossing the Angostura River, which joins lakes Moreno, Nahuel Huapi and Lopez Bay at the foot of Lopez Mountain. Arriving at Panoramic Point, a natural vantage point to have views towards Moreno Lake and Llao Llao peninsula, after a photo stop continue to El Trebol pond and three miles ahead, Ezequiel Bustillo Avenue will take us back to your hotel in Bariloche. (A minimum of 5 participants required)

Buenos Aires
Tigre Delta Morning Excursion ($79 per person)
The Tigre Delta, located on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, with its rivers, streams and numerous green islands is one of the most attractive areas for visitors. The continuous sediment of the Parana River, which gives the river and estuary their particular brownish-red color, forms the Delta Islands. After arrival, enjoy a delightful one-hour ride on a comfortable boat along the water passageways. En route to the Delta, you will cross the Northern suburbs of the city, where you’ll see some of the most exclusive mansions facing the river. (A minimum of 5 participants required)

Guarani Community and Wanda Mines ($70 per person)
The visit to the Indian village of Tekoa Yriapú of the Mbyá Guarani ethnical group offers the opportunity for a closer contact with the Guarani culture, a real dive into the Guarani world dimension, with information on the history, living and survival methods, handicrafts, religious traditions and much more.The visit will end at the Village’s courtyard where locally made handicrafts are exhibited and sold which is part of their income. A local guide specializing in the subject will accompany you during the whole tour giving information before, during and after the visit. A guide belonging to the Community will receive you and accompany the whole visit.Contribution: on taking this tour you are contributing to the economic resources and projects to this assist the community. Afterwards, continue to the Wanda mines. Upon arrival to Wanda (name given by Polish settlers), you will visit the quarry and take a short walk.You will observe geodes encrusted in the basalt rock of volcanic origin that forms the soil of the region.

Trip Preparation


Your flights on this tour are with LATAM Airlines. You are expected to check-in for your flight at least 3½ hours before the scheduled departure. Please make sure to allow sufficient time for clearing immigration and customs if you are planning a connecting flight.  We recommend at least 3 ½ hours.  Please keep in mind that the below flight schedules are always subject to change.

LATAM Airlines does not accept advance seat assignment.  Actual seat assignment will be provided at the airport. Please note that smarTours is not involved in your seat assignment.  It is between you and the airline!


You must be in possession of a passport valid for at least 6 months after the date of return. American passport holders do not require a visa for Chile or Argentina. Non U.S. citizens should check with the respective consulates as to the most current visa requirements to all their travel destinations. It is your responsibility to obtain the necessary travel documents before the trip.


Your airline tickets along with final instructions and travel tips will be sent to you 10 – 7 days before the scheduled departure of your tour.  Please make sure to advise us in case your address changes.


You should consult your personal physician, local public health authorities or the Center of Disease Control (CDC) as to their recommendations including Yellow Fever.


Chile & Argentina are located in the Southern hemisphere and therefore have reverse seasons to those of the United States. September/October/November is spring with daytime temperatures averaging in the 50’s and 70’s. December through February is summer with daytime temperatures averaging in the 80’s. March is early fall with daytime temperatures averaging in the 70’s.  Daytime temperatures average in the 60’s in April.  You can expect cooler temperatures in the Chilean Lake district. Also, overnight temperatures may lower by 10-20 degrees.


You may dine at either of the hotels used on this tour or other nearby restaurants recommended by your guide. Average cost for dinner (excluding drinks) in the coffee shop is about $20 – $25 per meal per person. Your hotel will accept credit cards for your non-included meals.


Hotels and some stores accept major credit cards.  However, for “street shopping” you will need local currency or U.S. Dollars.  Your hotels will be able to exchange your cash to local currency. It is recommended that you bring along cash in small denominations.


Each passenger may bring one piece of checked-in luggage not to exceed 44 pounds and one carry-on piece not to exceed 18”x10”x8”.  We recommend that you do not over-pack and that you take a variety of separates with climate and comfort in mind.
